Pozivamo vas na izlaganje Caroline Hye Sun Bertron

Studying “Swiss boarding-schools” at the margins of migration and education of the dominant class

koje će se održati u ponedjeljak 7. srpnja u 12 sati

u Knjižnici Instituta za etnologiju i folkloristiku, Šubićeva 42 (V. kat)

The presentation will focus on Bertron’s on-going study on international boarding schools in French-speaking Switzerland. Since the 19th century, these institutions have been well known for welcoming children of the upper class from abroad. Building on the case of young alumni (who arrived at 10-12 years old in Switzerland) and their trajectory at and after school, the paper will address the question of how educational strategies are embedded in wider circulations and economic and political strategies of the elite. The paper will also look at how, away from their parents at a young age, these students developed a particular "international" way of life and sense of identity connected to the local space that, in a way, transformed their school experience into a "child migration" experience.

CAROLINE HYE SUN BERTRON is a doctoral student in sociology (Université Paris 1 Panthéon Sorbonne, Centre Européen de Sociologie) and in anthropology (Université de Lausanne, Laboratoire d’anthropologie culturelle et sociale).
