Sanja Puljar D'Alessio, Ph.D.

She graduated in 1994 in ethnology and archaeology at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb. In 1997 she started her postgraduate studies of ethnology and cultural anthropology at the same faculty. Her Master's dissertation was entitled Lastovo carnival in film media. Methods of visual anthropology in interpreting custom and film reality, which she defended in 2000. Following this, she started her Doctoral studies in cultural anthropology at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb, with the thesis entitled Localising the global: an interpretation of television programs from a comparative perspective. She gained her Doctorate in 2005. Her main interest is in visual anthropology: she is engaged in the theory of ethnographic film and filming. Recently, she has been staying in Italy (Naples), where she is researching comparative perspectives on television media (in Italy and Croatia) and following the critical schools of the ethnography of public media.
