Graduated Ethnology at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of the University of Zagreb. Earned his Master's at the Dept. for Cultural Anthropology at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences of Ljubljana University (Slovenia), and his PhD at the Zagreb University (The Tanac Dance on the Island of Krk). Has been on the staff of the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research in Zagreb since 1990, President of the Research Council (2005-2011), and Director (2011-2015). 

Author of the bilingual book Krčki tanci - plesno-etnološka studija. Tanac dances on the Island of Krk - Dance Ethnology Study (2005), awarded for the scientific and educational work by the Croatian Ethnological Society. 

Guest lecturer at the Universities of Zagreb, Zadar, Osijek (Croatia) and Sarajevo (BiH). Holds courses in Croatian traditional dance at home and abroad (LCV and Dansakademie Brabant, Tilburg 1987 and Folkloredans bedrijf Slof 1997, 1999-2003, The Netherlands; Heidelberg, Germany, 1991; Institut für Volksmusikforschung, Vienna, Austria 1993).

Member of the Publication Committee and editor of the bibliography Dance Research: Published or Publicly Presented by Members of the Study Group on Ethnochoreology of the International Council for Traditional Music (ICTM), member of the International Board - journal Češký lid. Representative of the Republic of Croatia in the Intergovernmental Committee of the UNESCO's Convention for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage (2008-2012).

Associate of the Miroslav Krleža Croatian Lexicographical Institute, Croatian Radio-Television, and Culturnet. Member of the Matrix Croatica, the Croatian Ethnological Society, Croatian Musicological Society, International Council for Traditional Music. 

Fields of interest: research into dance, performance studies, dance events in the past and in the present, history, methodology and development of ethnochoreology, dance ethnology, anthropology of structural movement and dance ethnography, applied work, intangible cultural heritage.
