Born in Zagreb on the 25th of January 1960. In the academic year of 1978/9, he started reading Comparative Literature and Indology at the Faculty of Philosophy in Zagreb, where he graduated in 1984. In the academic year of 1987/8, he began his postgraduate studies in comparative literature at the Faculty of Philosophy. His Masters dissertation was entitled Proverbs in Context. Since the 1st of August in 1988, he has been working at the Institute for Ethnology of Folklore Research. His area of special research interest, which began during his Masters research, is primary forms (proverbs, riddles and so on). He completed his master’s in 1991. Having studied for a year in Tübingen, he started his doctoral studies at Zagreb University, researching the theme of literary and non literary genres. His received his Doctorate in 1997 with the thesis entitled Knjizevni i izvanknjizevni zanrovi, aspekti teorije govornih zanrova (Literary and non Literary Genres; Theoretical aspects of speech genres).
