By observing music and dance as intangible culture, the cycles of research continue and expand, relying on two Institute’s projects, “Ethnochoreological Themes: Origins, Concepts, and Complexity of Dance” and “Heritageization of Traditional and Popular Music in Croatia in Historical Perspective”, as well as the project funded by the Croatian Science Foundation, “The Recording Industry in Croatia from 1927 to the end of the 1950s (2020–2024)”. Systematic monitoring, documentation, expert and scientific processing, as well as critical interpretation of various music and dance traditions are part of the fundamental research activities at the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore, which has been the only such research center in Croatia since its establishment in 1948. In addition to research, collaborators on the project participate in various forms of educational, applied, and advisory work with local communities and other users – various institutions, locally active groups and individuals in the sectors of education and culture. They specialize in researching and interpreting the content of cultural and social events which they observe both in their historical development and in their contemporaneity. The project will connect researchers engaged in contextual research of music and dance, encompassing and disseminating previous research results and planning future collaborations.
