Narodna umjetnost 63/1 (2026) – CALL FOR PAPERS Thematic issue: Employment in precarious times: coping strategies and emotional imprints.

The project “European Regime of Irregular Migration on the Periphery of the EU: From Ethnography to Glossary – ERIM” (HRZZ) organizes the conference “Keywording the European Irregularized Migration Regime: Reflections from/on the Peripheries”. The conference will be held at the Institute of Ethnology and Folklore from April 11 to 13, 2024. The deadline for submission of abstracts is November 15, 2023.

We dedicate the IEF 2021 annual conference to the memory of Dr. sc. Nives Rittig-Beljak, research advisor and a long-time associate of the Zagreb Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research.

Institute of Ethnology and Folklore Research and the project Narrating Fear, funded by the Croatian Science Foundation, are co-organizing the 14th course “Feminisms in a Transnational Perspective” (24-28 May 2021), at the Interuniversity Centre Dubrovnik, this time in online format. The seminar program entitled “Beyond the Ruins of Capitalism” focuses not only on tectonic disturbances, fears and threats that shake neoliberal societies but also questions possible ways for feminist action and thinking for radical change.

The future of our cities and the urban life has become more hotly debated than ever in the wake of the huge upheaval brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic. Terms such as authenticity, culture, character, and uniqueness are thrown around in discussions about the kind of urban environments we want to live in. But what do they really mean?
Charles Wolfe will address his new book with Tigran Haas, Sustaining a City’s Culture and Character, which explores how we can understand and respond sensitively, thoughtfully and creatively to the individual needs of each public place, neighbourhood, or city, creating an urban world that is distinctive and desirable to live in.
